Entry 7 How computers changed animation

For a long time, the utilization and development of innovation has encouraged activity's advancement. From the early times of the phenakistoscope plate (shaft watcher) or flip book, to the development of the zoetrope and current manifestations of realistic activity, innovation has helped movement advance from two — to three-dimensional configuration and even on to stereoscopic 3D.

All the more as of late, innovation apparatuses encouraging PC activity incorporate for instance the computerized pen, tablet and advanced chiseling devices. What's more, top of the line 3D movement programming empowers the greater part of what one would find in a regular enlivened motion picture, for example, demonstrating, rendering, liveliness, and lightning. Furthermore, for certain energized groupings requiring an additional edge, there is dependably the chance to create uniquely crafted restrictive programming to add that additional component to the last item.

Yet, be it computer games, films or t.v., every one of them convey the indications of current liveliness methods encouraged by the utilization of innovation. However some time before the development of PCs, illustrators made utilization of hand illustrations to make their enlivened characters which carried with it the dreary undertaking of monitoring every single physical illustration making up the activity arrangement.

The coming of PC and realistic handling equipment has on a very basic level changed this procedure. Be that as it may, though the time span it takes to make an enlivened film has remained generally the same, it is the nature of the final product which has fundamentally enhanced because of this innovation.

Entry 6 favorite animator

Seth McFarlane:

MacFarlane is an alum of the Rhode Island School of Design, where he considered animation. Recruited to Hollywood, he was an illustrator and essayist for Hanna-Barbera for a few TV arrangement, including Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, Dexter's Laboratory, I Am Weasel, and Larry and Steve. As a performing artist, he has shown up on arrangement, for example, Gilmore Girls, The War at Home and Flash Forward. In 2008, he made his own particular YouTube arrangement titled Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy. He won a few honors for his work on Family Guy, including four Prime-time Emmy Awards and an Annie Award. In 2009, he won the Webby Award for Film and Video Person of the Year. He at times talks at colleges and universities all through the United States, and is a dynamic supporter of gay rights.

one of Seth MacFarlane animated shows is the popular american t.v. show family guy. family guy uses hand drawn animation from the characters to the scenery everything is hand drawn, because of this animation technique it takes about ten months to create one episode because everything has to be accurate.

Entry 5 pioneers - Lotte Reiniger

Lotte Reiniger:

Lotte Reiniger, a pioneer in the world of animated film, and a standard-bearer for women in the industry, was born 117 years ago today in Berlin. Her hypnotic films, painstakingly crafted out of snippets of card and wire and animated by hand, have influenced generations of film-makers and artists. She also made one of the world’s first animated features, a whirlwind of a fantasy film called The Adventures of Prince Achmed in 1926. The films, and their enduring charms, are phenomenal, but there are contradictions in the Reiniger story. While we think of Reiniger as a trail-blazer, her work was mostly inspired by antiquated traditions of performance and storytelling. You could also say that her story is also a cautionary one – she worked around the limitations of being a woman in the film industry, rather than storming in to claim her place in the studio.

Film was Reiniger’s passion: as a child she was delighted by the trick films of Georges Méliès, and later the dreamy horrors of Paul Wegener. She was also an enthusiast for the Chinese art of shadow puppetry, creating her own silhouette spectaculars for a parental audience. As a young woman and keen to work with Wegener, she found a job designing silhouettes for the inter-titles in his films. Her first step into animation proper was on his film The Pied Piper of Hamelin (1918). Wegener found he could not control live rats (or even guinea pigs) on set, so Reiniger was tasked with animating wooden rodents, stop-motion style. “The projection was a triumph,” Reiniger remembered. “Those rats really moved as erratically as you would expected panicky rats would and they followed the Piper all right.”

One of Lotte Reiniger animated movies was the adventures of price Achmed which was made 1926. This is a German animated fairy tale by lotte Reiniger is the oldest surviving animated feature film. The adventures of prince achmed features a silhouette animation technique reiniger had invented which involved manipulated cut outs made from cardboard and thin sheets of lead under a camera. The technique she used for the camera is similar to wayang shadow puppets, though hers were animated frame by frame, not manipulated in live action. The original prints featured color tinting..

Entry 4 Walt Disney

Walt Disney:

Walter ellas Disney was an American entrepreneur, animator, voice actor and a film producer. a pioneer of the American animation industry, he introduced several developments in the production of cartoons. As a film producer, Disney holds the record for most Academy Awards earned by an individual, having won 22 Oscars from 59 nominations. He was presented with two Golden Globe Special Achievement Awards and an Emmy Award, among other honors. Several of his films are included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Combining masterful artistry and storytelling with groundbreaking technology, Walt Disney Animation Studios is a filmmaker-driven animation studio responsible for creating some of the most beloved films ever made. Located in Burbank, WDAS continues to build on its rich legacy of innovation and creativity, stretching from the first fully-animated feature film, 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, to 2013's Academy Award-winning Frozen, the biggest animated film of all time. Among the studio's timeless creations are Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, and the upcoming feature Moana.

The best animators only sketched a few animation drawings, leaving gaps in between. Later on, a person called an “inbetweener” would finish the scenes, by drawing in between the areas that the animator had left.

Entry 3 1900-1930 animation

Gertie the dinosaur:

Gertie the dinosaur is a 1914 animated short film by cartoonist and animator Winsor Mccay. it is the earliest animated film to feature a dinosuar. Mccay first used the film before live audiences as an interactive part of his vaudeville act; the frisky, childlike gertie did tricks at the command of her master. Mccays employer William Randolph hearst later curtailed Mccays vaudeville activites, so Maccy added a live action introductory sequence to the film for its theratical realse. Maccy abandoned a sequel, gertie on tour after producing a minute of footage.

Gertie the dinosaur was the first animated film to use animation techniques such as key frames, registration marks, tracing paper, the mutoscope action viewer and animation loops. it influences the next generation of animators such as the Flescher brothers, Otto Messer, Paul Terry and Walt Disney. John Randolph Bray unsuccessfully tried to patent many of Maccys animation techniques and is said to have been a plagiarized version of gertie the dinosaur that appeared a year later after the original. Gertie is the best preserved of Maccys films some of which have been lost or survive only in fragments and has been preserved in the u.s. libary of congress national film registry as being culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.

Entry 2 the zoetrope

the zoetrope

the zoetrope was invented in 1834 by william George horner, was an early form of motion picture projector that consisted of a drum containing a set of still images that was turned in a circular fashion in order to create the illusion of motion.

A zoertrope is relatively easy to build. It can be turned at a variable rate to create slow motion or speeded up effects. like other motion simulation devices, the zoetrope depends on the fact that the human retina retains a image about a tenth of a second so that if a new image appears in that time, the sequence was seem to be uninterrupted and continuous. It also depends on what is referred to as the phi phenomenon, which observes that we try to make sense out of any sequence of impressions, continuously relating to each other.

The visual effect (loops - continuous movement) created by a zoetrope or zoopraxiscope is still used today to create animation gifs and video display technologies such as steaming video, which essentially create an effect of motion by presenting discrete but closely related images one after the other.
